Bursary Award Recipients

The Adult Learning Association of Cape Breton County Learner Bursary Program is designed to provide financial assistance to deserving adult learners who have completed an ALACBC program and are progressing to further studies at another educational institution.

The Adult Learning Association of Cape Breton County is pleased to announce the 2009 bursary winners. The 2008-2009 Adult Learning Association Bursary recipients are:

  • $100 - Cathy Besso
    $100 - Kathleen Doucette
    $100 - Nona Lee Lawrence
    $100 - Janie MacLeod
    $100 - Rachelle Petrie
    $100 - New Waterford student

Learner Bursary Program

The Adult Learning Association of Cape Breton County Learner Bursary Program is designed to provide financial assistance to deserving adult learners who have completed an ALACBC program and are progressing to further studies at another educational institution.

Bursary applications are available from any ALACBC instructor.
Bursary applications will be accepted by the ALACBC Coordinator.
Awards will be presented following proof of registration at the new school.

Selection Process

  1. Completed applications, accompanied by a learner portfolio, are submitted to the ALACBC Coordinator.
  2. Applications will be reviewed for evidence of good attendance, strong work ethic/commitment to learning and financial need in consultation with applicants’ instructors.
  3. Awards will be announced by the Coordinator within thirty (30) days of the closing date for applications.
  4. All bursary decisions are final.

The number and value of Adult Learning Association of Cape Breton County Learner Bursaries awarded will be determined by:

  • The amount available for awards
  • The number of applicants

To apply for an ALACBC Learner Bursary learners must:

  • Be at least 19 years old,
  • Have attended an ALACBC program for at least 3 months,
  • Have a good attendance record,
  • Show a commitment to learning,
  • Demonstrate a need for financial assistance,
  • Submit a learner portfolio and completed application form to the ALACBC Coordinator,
  • Be accepted to attend a further educational program.
