3.20 Volunteers To achieve the Association’s mission, the ALACBC employs both paid staff and volunteer Board Members and Tutors. Orientation and Training All volunteers will be required to attend an orientation session. If possible, volunteer tutors will attend a literacy training program before being placed in a classroom. Exceptions may be considered depending on prior experience. Further training for volunteers will be provided as opportunities arise. All volunteers will participate in an ongoing evaluation process. The ALACBC reserves the right to monitor and evaluate the work of volunteers. Application, screening and accepting volunteers You can submit a Volunteer Application Form online. The ALACBC reserves the right to employ volunteers based on their suitability for the duties described in the job descriptions. To protect the student, ALACBC and volunteers, it is the policy of the ALACBC to conduct a detailed background check as part of the screening process. This will involve contacting at least two references. Persons wanting to volunteer with the ALACBC are required to submit a completed application along with a current, relevant resume to the Association’s senior staff person, with references. Following receipt of the application, an interview will be arranged. All applicants will receive a written response to their application, following the interview and reference check. During the orientation process, successful applicants will receive a handbook which includes copies of their agreement(s) with the ALACBC, a job description, and copies of other relevant policies and procedures. All volunteers are expected to become members of the ALACBC. The ALACBC reserves the right to refuse the services of any individual who is deemed to be unsuitable or unable to serve the best interests of our students. All volunteers are subject to a probationary period of 60 working days, after which time an evaluation will be completed to determine whether the needs of the ALACBC and the volunteer are being satisfactorily met. Volunteer Expectations The ALACBC asks volunteers to commit to completing the current term in consideration of the best interests of the students’ learning progress. |
