CLANS is a
non-profit, charitable organization whose mission is to provide adult literacy
programming to residents of the North of Smokey area. The goal of CLANS is to sustain a learning network that will assist people
to reach their full literacy potential by working with them to improve their
reading, writing
and math skills so that they can participate more fully in their home
, workplace and community.
To achieve its
stated purpose, CLANS shall engage in the following
activities:
- Pursue all possible avenues to bring adult literacy
programming to the North of Smokey area.
- Administer
Community Learning Initiative funding in order to provide accessible
community based adult literacy and upgrading programs
for the residents North of Smokey.
- Ensure
that all programming that is developed by the Network be learner
centered. We agree to use plain language in all written and
oral material.
- Provide
leadership and professional development for the directors, staff
and students of CLANS.
- Be
flexible and creative with respect to partnerships and program
models.
- Ensure programs are delivered in as many communities as
possible North of Smokey.
- Promote
and publicize the opportunities offered by CLANS to
create/increase awareness of literacy at all
levels.
