National Volunteer Week will take place from April 18 to 24, 1999. During this important week, the contribution of Canada's 7.5 million volunteers will be recognized and honored. This year's theme is: "Volunteers- Our Greatest Natural Resource". Volunteer Canada has prepared an excellent resource kit and activity guide for this week. They also have many volunteer recognition items. You can order these resources by contacting Volunteer Canada at: 1-800-670-0401 or order online at: http://www.volunteer.ca/dev/resources/ Kingston Literacy received funding from the Ministry of Education and Training in December 1998 to revise "The Assessment Kit. " This kit provides an assessment and tracking model designed for community-based, volunteer one-to-one tutoring programs. This project will involve:
The first stage of this project is to revise the tracking sheets and learning outcomes overviews. By April 1999, these resources will be provided to programs who already possess the 1998 version of the kit. As well, CLO will select four sites to field test the Assessment Kit. ![]() The second stage of this project will be to offer training to any interested regional networks between May and October 1999. If you are interested in a training session on the kit, please contact your regional network. All feedback, information and evaluation from the project will be incorporated in a new, revised edition of the kit.
