Technology Enhanced Adult Education:

This conference is intended for those assisting adult learners with life, work and academic skills, including teachers, tutors and administrators. Conference organizers believe the title of this conference explains the theme accurately, in that the ALT Conference is not just about adult literacy, but about a number of issues, including the application of technology in adult education. The conference runs from July 28 - 31, 1998, at Michigan State University's Kellogg Centre. Survey Results From Our February Issue..

  • 90% of respondents indicated that they use IBM/compatibles, while 10% use the Mac
  • 60% chose educational software reviews as the most useful feature in the newsletter; 15% chose lesson plans; 15% chose Technical Tips as the most useful feature and 10% chose Navigating the Web.
  • in almost all cases, respondents indicated that all of the articles in the newsletter were useful to a varying degree, depending on the way technology is used by individual literacy programs.
  • almost half of the respondents indicated that they were just beginning to integrate technology into the curriculum; 20% used technology solely for administrative purposes and communication, and only 30% indicated that technology was an essential part of the curriculum at this time.
  • some of the comments we received: "Your publication is super-excellent!" - "...a great resource for the literacy field, keep up the good work." - "A great source of information..." - "CONNECT is a much needed publication!" - "We look forward to every issue!"
