We're Back For Another Year!

We are proud to announce that CONNECT is entering its third year of publication. Thanks to a grant from the National Literacy Secretariat, and the services of the National Adult Literacy Database (NALD) and the AlphaPlus Centre, we will be able to continue publication of this newsletter until April 2000. CONNECT has grown from a small quarterly newsletter to a bi-monthly publication over the last two years, with subscribers from across Canada.

The mandate of this publication is to provide a resource to promote the appropriate use of technology in literacy programs, to provide information on the use of technology in the classroom, and to provide information which can help organizations make appropriate and affordable choices when assessing technological needs. CONNECT is available in hard copy or electronically through the NALD website.

Publishing CONNECT has been a challenging experience. As with any publication, after funding, finding suitable material for each issue is a major consideration. Fortunately, we have received many interesting and relevant submissions from administrators, practitioners and software developers from around the country, which have contributed to the success of this publication. We look forward to hearing from more of you in the near future, and we would like to thank our readers and contributors for making this publication so successful.

Please take a minute to fill out the enclosed questionnaire to help us determine the type of articles and reviews you would like to see in upcoming issues of CONNECT. We also welcome any comments and suggestions you would like to make. In addition, we are always interested in hearing about programs and projects involving literacy and technology. Please contact us if you would like to submit a story, provide information about upcoming events, or if you would like us to write about your project or organization. Contact information is on the back cover of every issue. Once again, thank you for your support, and we look forward to working with you over the next 12 months.

Guy Ewing, who is with the Toronto District School Board LBS program, has provided an excellent review of the Kurzweil 3000 reading station, as well as commenting on several other programs he has used with students.

To read a message, just click on it, and the contents will open. If you would like to respond, or write a message, click on the appropriate button at the top of the page. There are five categories for messages or responses: general, best practice ideas; web issues and resources; hopes and fears and software. The seminar will run from May 12 - June 11, 1999, so those wishing to participate are encouraged to drop in as soon as possible. However, the workshop will remain online for those who wish to view the messages at a later date.
