Easy Writer is a new interactive writing and grammar program for mid to high level learners. It covers many grammar elements, including: possessives, prepositions, nouns/pronouns, punctuation, spelling and vocabulary practice. While the program was originally written for ESL learners, it has been used successfully with literacy students who are working on developing their reading and writing skills. It is based on a series of authentic stories written by students from around the world, and each story contains the original student errors. The program has different levels, based on the student level. At the first level, the students only need to identify the mistakes in the passage. At higher levels, they must identify and correct the errors in the stories. The students receive hints and ‘comments’ as they are working, based on the corrections or text they have entered. The students or instructor can also choose a specific grammar element to work with, such as verb tenses, or they can work with the “Mixed Bag” option which provides a variety of exercises. The program also contains a “Grammar Help” feature, which gives information and grammar rules as the student works through the passage.

The program is very easy to use, even for novice students. It follows the same format for each level of the program, so once students have used it a few times, they find it very easy to navigate through the program independently. The content is adult oriented, with interesting and authentic stories which provide good reading practice, as well as error identification and correction practice.
