What better time of year to recognize the Canadian Centre for Financial Literacy (CCFL) than during November - Financial Literacy Month.
A division of Social and Enterprise Development Innovations (SEDI), CCFL helps organizations that serve low-income Canadians by providing training, program support and an online venue where practitioners can share their success stories and learn from others’. The CCFL website features a variety of resources, evaluation tools and reports that can be used to assist in the delivery of financial literacy programs.
CCFL reminds Canadians there are lots of ways community organizations can get involved in Financial Literacy Month 2012. Suggestions include joining the conversation on social media, writing a newsletter article on a money matter or hosting an event.
Congratulations to CCFL for creating a helpful online map of the programs, services and partnerships focused on financial literacy for low-income and vulnerable populations in Canada. The map is designed to be a resource that “informs and connects the growing community of financial literacy practitioners both regionally and nationally.”
More than 1,100 front line staff members from some 400 community organizations nationwide have been trained to deliver financial literacy programs through CCFL. Your group can join the CCFL Facilitator Network and learn more about the training program.
Also noteworthy:
Organizations such as CCFL recognize that Canadians can become overwhelmed with their fiscal responsibilities and get off track financially ̶ or that perhaps they didn’t have the resources to learn the principles of sound financial management in the first place.
Together these organizations have declared November 2012 the second annual Financial Literacy Month in Canada.
