Establishing an education program in the workplace requires important first steps – assessing and recognizing employee skills and abilities.

The Canadian Association for Prior Learning Assessment (CAPLA) is known for its expertise in prior learning assessment and it is the only national organization in Canada dedicated to the recognition of prior learning (RPL).

CAPLA will hold its Fall Focus Workshop in Toronto November 15-17. Based on the theme Recession, Recognition, Recruitment and Renewal, the conference will look at innovative prior learning assessment and recognition (PLAR) and qualification recognition (QR) practices that contribute to a comprehensive approach to labour market development and renewal.

Other key topics on the conference agenda include: how career counsellors, human resource development practitioners and employment advisors use PLAR to support their clients; what sector councils are doing to address skill shortages and facilitate labour adjustment/mobility; and how regulatory bodies manage the RPL agenda.

CAPLA envisions a world in which all learning is recognized and people have the opportunity to pursue learning, reach their career goals and enhance the quality of community living.
