Interaction strategies
uses basic strategies such as: allowing others to speak, responding to questions but interactions usually not initiated by self
begins to use some strategies to initiate interaction such as: directing questions or comments towards others in the group
uses strategies that maintain communication such as: encouraging responses from others, asking questions, and turn taking
uses and initiates more complex strategies that facilitate understanding such as: clarifying points, inviting others to participate
Non-verbal communication
aware of basic non-verbal cues (eye contact, facial expressions)
begins to have awareness of own non-verbal language
increased awareness of non-verbal cues
begins to identify cues (of self and others) as effective or ineffective
continued awareness of non-verbal cues
begins to adapt non-verbal message to match intended message and situation
uses effective gestures and facial expressions to convey message
able to monitor own non-verbal habits

Dealing with diversity
has difficulty accpeting viewpoints or opinions that are different from own
begins to accept different opinions and viewpoints
accepts different viewpoints and begins to explore and try to understand them
