Volunteer tutors can have a significant positive impact on student learning and growth. By training volunteer tutors, you are actively demonstrating that everyone can learn and everyone can help others to learn.
There is an important role for all of us. Parents, teachers, volunteers from the community as well as high school and university students are all getting involved by spending time with younger students and providing them with tutoring support, encouragement and lots of praise.
Frontier College instructors and volunteer tutors have been providing people with this kind of support for learning for over one hundred years – since 1899.
The training materials in this guide are based on our experience in programs that we have run in every part of Canada. Adapt these resources to reflect the needs and strengths of your students, your volunteers and your community.
Good luck with your training!
