What Is Nursing Bottle
Syndrome?

Call your dentist if you see any spots on my teeth.
What Is Nursing Bottle Syndrome?
- Severe tooth decay – especially brown spots on my teeth.
- I may need to have many of my first teeth removed at a young age.
What Causes Nursing Bottle Syndrome?
- Natural sugars found in most liquids that I drink.
- These liquids can pool in my mouth especially when I am lying down.
- When these natural sugars are in contact with my teeth and gums for
a long period of time, it will cause them to decay.
How Can I Prevent Nursing Bottle Syndrome?
- Never lay me down with a bottle. If I must have a bottle in bed,
use only water in it. PLEASE!
- Do not feed me sugared water or drinks with a bottle or sippy cup.
- Wipe my gums with a damp cloth once or twice daily.
- When my teeth come, brush them with a soft bristled toothbrush and
a tiny bit of fluoride toothpaste at least twice a day.
- Floss my teeth when they start touching each other and take me to
see the dentist when I turn 1 year old.
Tip!
I may need help brushing my teeth until I am about 8 years old.
