PROGRAM DESIGN
The Program Design should be initiated two months before the workshop
date. The steps of the Program Design are:
- Needs Assessment
- Setting Your Objective
- Planning
- Implementing
- Processing
- Evaluation
1. NEEDS ASSESSMENT
A Needs Assessment is conducted to find out if there is a need or
desire for a particular service, in this case a Disability Awareness
Workshop for literacy workers.
There are several ways to carry out a Needs Assessment. The method
that is chosen will depend on the size of the group, the structure of
the group, the location and other resources that are available.
Some methods for gathering information for a Needs Assessment are:
- personal interviews
- group interviews
- questionnaires
- group discussions
- knowledge and skill tests
- self-interest and self-identified
The following is an example of a Needs Assessment Questionnaire completed
by a literacy program. A blank copy of this Needs Assessment follows
the completed one. This assessment questionnaire could be photocopied
or used as a guideline when developing one.
