Morgan Hiltz - South Shore Work Activity Program

A few years ago, I wasn't thinking about getting my education, school was never for me. That had made looking for a job difficult. I had passed out resumes and applications to a lot of different places. It doesn't look good on a resume having just your grade nine.

I was talking to my boyfriend at the time, and he had just graduated the South Shore Work Activity Program and suggested that I look into it. I called the program and they set me up with an appointment. A few days later, I got a call, telling me that I could start in a couple of weeks. The same day I had a job interview, and I believe that starting the South Shore Work Activity Program had helped me out already.

On September 11th, 2008 I started the South Shore Work Activity Program. Since then, I have learned so much. They set me up with my own councillor, who sat down with me and helped me write out a list of goals that I want to accomplish. The classes they teach have taught me skills that I now use everyday.

If it weren't for this program, I wouldn't have had as many opportunities to do things with my life. They have helped me accomplish things like taking The Food Handlers course, and my customer service skills have greatly advanced. I am currently taking First-Aid, studying for my driver's license, and the most important thing to me right now is that I am studying for my G.E.D. Once I get my grade twelve, I plan to further my education by going to community collage, so I can work in a day care.
