I put these words on paper to thank Adult learning Programs everywhere for giving me the opportunity to make myself, my family and NSCC proud of me. The multitude of learning experiences that I have had was wonderful. I left school in grade eight at the tender age of 14 and did not return for 34 years. I always wanted my grade twelve although I never thought that I would be able to do it with everything else that is life.
Then I heard about the Adult Learning Program available with the NSCC and thought that I would check it out. As soon as I arrived for my appointment I knew that this was the place for me. The faculty and staff were very friendly and it wasn't very long before I was starting classes. At first I was a little nervous but then I started to realize that everything that they were teaching me was making sense.
One of the courses that I am taking was in computers. I was computer illiterate when I first started and now I am knowledgeable in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. My average for this progress report was 98% overall.
The way that the instructors teach is what I give credit to. They call it teaching from the back of the room as compared to a teacher that is at the front of the class. I also like the fact that everyone works at their own speed and test when you are ready for it. The reason that I like this type of instruction is because as adults we are all at different learning levels.
One of my favorite courses was Career Skills. In this class you were taught how to put together a portfolio and how to have a proper interview. At first I didn't see were this class could help a person like myself who had been in the workforce for over 30 years but I am so glad that they offered this class, it has taught me some very valuable lessons about life and career skills.
One more experience that has helped me tremendously is in communications. I have always wanted to write a book about my life and now I have the knowledge that it will take for me to do that properly. The name of my book is "The Life of a Gypsy, Pieces of Me"
I have learned so many things from every one of my instructors and would love to tell you something that I have learned from each one of them.
Unfortunately I am running out of space according to your contest requirements. One thing that I would like to say before I close is thank you NSCC for taking the time and patience that it took to make my life a better place to live.
