Have you ever wanted to have a second chance to get the education you always wanted? I am trying to upgrade mine as I never had a chance to when I was younger.
What adult learning means to me is trying to get ahead of yourself and finding things to do on your own and just keep on working on what you need in life. A good education means a lot to this generation and to the young ones that come into this world. There may be a lot of work and studying, but if you keep at it, you will succeed in life.
I started this program feeling unsure of my ability to do anything like this. It didn't take long for me to realize that I knew a lot more now than I did before.
With adult learning you can achieve your goals when you are too old to go back to regular high school. Many of the courses offered are the same as when I went to high school in my younger days. Some subjects are really hard for me like math, science, geography, but I try to do them. I especially like spelling, reading, and writing.
You need a good education to get a good job. If you want to learn the computer, you have to take a computer course. If you want to work in a bank, you have to know math skills. If you want to take a course, you might have to go to a community college and take special courses to qualify.
Adult learning gives me a second chance at an education. I was embarrassed to admit that I didn't know how to do math. I got so frustrated that I didn't know what to do.
Fortunately, along came Brenda Hare, my math tutor, and she is helping me. She started to tutor me about three months ago, and I am slowly getting used to it.
It was a big step for me to admit at first that I needed an education. I wasn't sure that I could do this. I'm beginning to realize that I am not the only person actually going back to school or getting tutored. I now see that there are a lot of people who can't do math any more than I can. I started feeling comfortable enough to admit that I didn't know how to do something.
I began by doing math on the chalkboard, but I was always getting the wrong answer. I kept trying until I got it right.
I try to earn my achievements which in turn raises my self esteem to a higher level. I am going to help my grandchildren with their work, and tell them to stay in school. I deserve a pat on the back despite the barriers I face.
I still am getting tutored in math. I have a struggle but I still try hard to get it done. I like to tell everyone that you can get a second chance in life if you put your mind to it and do it right. So, stay in school!
