I came to Keshen Goodman Public Library looking for help to read and write. I started coming in 2003 to Clayton Park to learn. I have learned more reading and writing and math and history and I am still coming and still learning at the library in Clayton Park.
Now I have the knowledge to do things myself. I have more confidence in myself to do more reading and writing. I can fill in applications and read newspapers and use the phonebook to look up words in the dictionary. I can manage my money and pay all my bills in my house, too.
I have written six or seven stories at the library in my class with my teacher. I have published stories in NALD, HCLN newsletters, Over the Mountain Yearbook, and the HCLN website. I have also taken computer courses. They were Bridging the Gap, a computer workshop and introduction to the internet. In my class we used the computer to learn math, history and typing. I want to get my grade twelve diploma in time and I will too.
In the past my wife had to do all my business in the house and pay my bills for years. I did not understand my money.
I have my Diploma from the Bridging the Gaps adult literacy program, to improve my literacy and computer skills. I still do the computer in the library.
I would like to help people who cannot read and write. I would like to get my teacher's diploma and come to the library and teach the people coming so they can read and write.
