During the first three months, the baby grows fast. Things like drugs and alcohol are very harmful
to baby's development.
First Month
- The sperm* and egg* join together. They attach to the uterus, which is joined to the vagina. The uterus is far
up inside the woman. The baby will grow here.
- The heart, brain, spinal cord (back), arms and legs and nervous system (nerves) all start to form.
- Your baby is smaller than a single grain of rice - 5 mm* long, and weighs about 0.4 grams (0.01 oz*).
Second Month
- Mouth, eyes, ears and nose form.
- Brain develops more. Muscles, bones and male penis form. Heart beat is stronger.
- Baby is about 22-24 mm* (1 inch) long and weighs 1 gram (0.36 oz.*).
Third Month
- All inside organs are formed. Baby starts to move around. Toes, fingers and fingernails form.
- Baby is 9 cm* (3.5 inches) and weighs about 15 grams (1/2 oz.*).
*sperm: thing that swims from the man to the female egg, comes out of penis in semen
