No one has the right to hurt you. If you are feeling afraid, worthless
and helpless, it is not your fault. You have the right to be free from abuse. Help is
available.
The following are some signs of abuse.
- ignoring or minimizing your feelings
- constantly criticizing, insulting and calling you names
- humiliating you in public or private
- controlling the money
- checking up on you constantly
- blaming you for the abuse that occurs
- playing mind games
- locking you out of your home
- threatening to: hurt you, take your children, harm your family and hurt you with a weapon
- hitting, choking, punching, biting, slapping, kicking you
If you are a victim of abuse:
- try to get help for yourself and for your baby.
- don't keep this a secret. Tell someone. Talk to a friend, a relative, an elder, a priest or clergyman, or a social
worker.
- ask a friend if you can stay with them.
- don't wait for it to get better. It won't.
