Grain Products: Aim for 5-12 servings a day Breads and cereals are a good source of energy. Your baby needs them to grow and you need them to fight morning sickness and constipation. Breads and cereals include: Try to choose whole grain cereals, breads and noodles over white ones. The fibre* in whole brain foods will help your bowels keep regular and give you an important vitamin called folic acid.
| 1 piece whole wheat toast or bread | 1/2 cup of cooked rice spaghetti or noodles |
| 1 small homemade muffin | 1/2 hamburger bun, hotdog bur, pita bread, bagel |
| 3/4 cup hot cereal | 1 medium pancake or waffle |
Vegetables and Fruit: 5-10 servings a day Fruits are full of healthy stuff that your growing baby needs. They also provide the main source of fibre*. Lots of fibre help keep your bowels regular and help slow down the rate that sugar gets into your blood stream. This will help you feel fuller longer.
*fibre: The parts of food that fill us up and help in digestion.
