When looking for a job, it helps to know the language of the working world. Please take a few minutes to read the words below. Knowing what they mean will help you out later.


Application: a form you fill out when you apply for a job
Covering Letter: a letter attached to the resume that introduces you to the employer
Employee: a person who works for someone else
Employer: a person or company that hires people
Employment Agency: an office that can help you find a job
Human Resources Development Office: used to be the Canada Employment Centre
Human Resources Office: the company office that hires people
Interview: a meeting with an employer to talk about a job
Job Search: an organized search for work
Network: a group of people who can help you find a job
Personnel Office: same as the Human Resources Office
Resume: a written summary of your experiences
