OLLIE . . . . WHEN I EAT...WHERE DOES IT GO? titleOllie the owl flying

Many children ask me this. The food that you eat everyday is extremely important in giving your body energy to do everyday things like running, jumping and playing. After you chew up your food in your mouth, it travels down into your stomach. Your stomach is where food goes and where your body will remove all of the energy from the food.

FOOD POISONING - Sometimes we have eaten somegirl with food poisoning food that has tiny bacteria (things we can't see) in it. These bacteria will not be in food when it is cooked properly either at home or when we go out to a restaurant. However there are times when food (mostly meat) is not cooked as fully as it should and when we eat the food, it makes us sick. What happens is that you could throw up (called vomiting) all the food which you just ate or you may have diarrhea (see Diarrhea page 28) and stomach cramps anywhere from one to five hours after eating. Sometimes a fever comes with it and it may stay for anywhere from 12 to 24 hours until the food leaves the body. For more serious cases of food poisoning, you will go to the doctor's office or a hospital.
