PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

by John Melicher

I would like to express my sincere appreciation in being asked to step in and fill the role of President for the 1996-1997 term. I consider it an honour and will put my heart and skills to work in serving AACE to the best of my abilities in the coming year.

To all AACE members, and especially those who have served on various committees, organized and faithfully attended our excellent events, "AACE" means more than just another professional organization. I know that these simple four letters evoke many different feelings and thoughts on the part of those who have shared in the warmth and fellowship of this organization over the years, perhaps especially for those who have been recognized for their special contributions at awards ceremonies. For me, these letters stand for: Autonomy (from any particular vested interest), Affection (of members for one another), Commitment (to the profession of continuing education) and Excellence (to the practice of continuing education).

The challenge for the current AACE Board will be to continue to build on the strengths and skills of AACE's membership to realize this organization's full potential as a strong, clear professional voice for adult educators province-wide. In the coming year, the Board will be making some Unit role changes to enhance the ability of the various Units to function with fewer human resources. Unit Directors will be calling on the membership to fill the resource gap by assisting them in their portfolios in various ways; please respond positively if you can,

As an organization, our overall goals are to create effective communication linkages amongst AACE members, excellent and well attended professional development events that offer stimulating and leading-edge learning opportunities to members, and a strong financial foundation upon which to operate in the coming years.
