Public presentations at the Family Resource Program conference, NL Laubach Literacy’s Annual General Meeting, and several community service group gatherings have allowed me to talk about BfB’s successes and up-coming needs.
Our party at the Chapters Indigo bookstore on Kenmount Road in St. John’s on November 13th generated close to $5,000 in sales. 10% was donated to our program.
There was great excitement at the Bishop’s Falls Public Library on Friday, October 22nd, when the library Board launched the Books for Babies® program. There were 14 parents and 2 soon-to-be moms in attendance.
On March 24th, at the Cormack Public Library, we took advantage of a preschool program on the local Recreation Winter Carnival schedule to give out Books for Babies® packages.
There are more than fifty towns in the province where volunteers provide tote bags containing a first book and useful literacy information to new parents.
On June 17th, five Chapters joined the Coordinator and the Advisory Committee in a telephone conference. Bayshore Adult Literacy Council, Ramea BFB®, Vista School District, Goose Bay BFB®, and Cormack BFB® were among the participants who joined in the discussions.
On January 27th, Books for Babies® held a Family Literacy Day event at the local Dominion store. Children could choose a book to take home with them from a number of titles.
