A busy Summer and Fall 2004

Editorial: Books for Babies® had an active Summer. I took delivery of another 1000 tote bags, 1000 board books and 800 Birthday Year books (Years 1 and 2) to meet delivery site needs. I thank Bay St. George, Clarenville, Baie Verte, Deer Lake and the St. John's Military FRC for patiently waiting.

Thank you to those who continue to send me data for our program data base. I hope to have it ready for statistical use by the Spring.

Thank you also to Kim at the Literacy Development Council and to the delivery sites for helping me with the Books for Babies® 10th Year Party at the Chapters Indigo bookstore on Kenmount Road in St. John's on Saturday, November 13th. Chapters Indigo is donating some prizes, 10% of all sales generated by people attending our event, and a lot of help. It is our first but not our last regional Books for Babies® party!

Congratulations to the Bishop's Falls Public Library, our newest Books for Babies® site. (Story on page 2)

Welcome to Welcome Wagon in Clarenville who are distributing our tote bags in the hospital there.

On the provincial scene, Books for Babies® received support from the Royal Bank of Canada, CIBC, the Literacy Branch, Department of Education, and members of the media during the summer.

We raised our profile at the Word on the Rock event in St. John's in September. We had an article in the Greater Corner Brook Board of Trade's newsletter in August. Our display and a brief program update at the NLLLC - AGM in Grand Falls-Windsor in October received positive feedback.

Fund-raising at the provincial level contributed to the design and production of four program display panels by Fast Signs of St. John's. Transcontinental Media (Corner Brook) has again produced our newsletter and Camprint (Corner Brook), our rejuvenated brochures.

Materials now include information from Health Canada's "Child Safe" program.

As always, your news makes The Book Stork, so please send in your stories. (Tina Stewart)
