Editorial: Families are pleased with our rattle board book and our choice of birthday year books. (see Page 2)

Funding proposals submitted to Early Childhood Learning (ECL), NL Department of Education, and to National Literacy Secretariat (NLS) were successful. The ECL is supporting the provincial coordination of our program in 2005-2006. NLS funding will provide for the "first ever" BfB Early Literacy Networking conference in May 2006 in Corner Brook.

Our Understanding the Early Years proposal for the production of BfB materials in the Native languages of Labrador did not receive funding. Our funding search continues with great encouragement from partners in Labrador.

It's my pleasure to introduce our part-time Assistant Provincial Coordinator, Ms. Natalie Hynes. There is a lot to do this year, so sharing the load with Natalie is really nice. (more below)

Public presentations at the Family Resource Program conference, NL Laubach Literacy's Annual General Meeting, and several community service group gatherings have allowed me to talk about BfB's successes and up-coming needs.

Don't forget to visit the BfB Photo Gallery at www.nald.ca/booksforbabies/photos.htm.

The Book Stork is for all of us, so thanks for your stories! Keep them coming. (Tina Stewart)

Hello to All!

I'm Natalie, the new Assistant Coordina-tor for the Books for Babies® Provincial Office. For the next nine months, photo of Natalie HynesI will be sharing my wonderfully busy life as a part-time Youth Counsellor, active com-munity volunteer and mother, with this amazing program!

Although I have worked, as a volunteer and employee, with several community-based groups throughout the province, this is my first involvement with Books for Babies®. I am very eager to "learn the ropes" and thrilled to be a part of the planning for the first ever Early Literacy Networking Conference (ELNC) to be held next May.

I will be on board until July 2006, so feel free to contact me for information about the Books for Babies® program, to order materials or to learn more about the upcoming con-ference. I look forward to hearing from you!
