Editorial: Books for Babies® has been busy since our last issue of The Book Stork. We actually ran out of tote bags in late February - thanks for your orders! As Mill Lane produces our new supply of 2,000 bags, donations from 3M Canada and RBC Financial Group will cover 60% of the full package cost. CIBC donated $1,000 towards the purchase of the Year 1 book, "Goodnight Moon" - also a big help.

New books now include a rattle board book, and new as well as old-favourites for the birthday year books. (see book list below)

Funding proposals have been submitted to: Early Childhood Development (NL Department of Education) for the provincial coordination of our program, to NLS for the "first ever" BfB/family literacy conference in May 2006 in Corner Brook, and to Social Development Canada (SDC) - Understanding Early Years Initiative for the production of BfB materials in Inuktitut. My thanks to all of you who wrote Letters of Support or provided feedback and encouragement.

Our party at the Chapters Indigo bookstore on Kenmount Road in St. John's on November 13th generated close to $5,000 in sales. 10% was donated to our program.

Welcome to new Books for Babies® chapters - the Buchans Lionettes, Gander Military Family Resource Centre, and the Branch Recreation Committee - Cape Shore region.

BfB community connections now include the Applied Research Unit (MUN-SWGC), the Community Education Network (Bay St. George Region), Safe Kids Canada , the Labrador Institute- MUN and the Labrador Inuit Association. (www.nald.ca/booksforbabies/partners.htm)

How we have grown! It's not just the babies who are growing! The Books for Babies® program had 19 partner sites (chapters) in October 2003. We now reach families in more than 1,000 communities through 40 community and regional program sites province-wide.

1000 copies of the Fall 2004 issue of The Book Stork were distributed to Books for Babies® program sites, volunteers, libraries, family resource centres, MPs, MHAs, literacy councils, government departments, school boards, sponsors and resource partners. 1000 copies of Spring 2005 are here and Fall 2005 is yet to come!

Our Birthday Year Follow-Up Books for 2005-2006 include:

In the tote bag is Colors, a rattle-board book. A choice of two different titles for each birthday year is working well and they are:
Year 1: Goodnight Moon & Read To Your Bunny
Year 2: The Jacket I Wear in the Snow & If You Give a Pig a Pancake
Year 3: Corduroy & The Snowy Day
Year 4: It Begins with an A & The Hat.

Titles may change now and then with availability or best prices and to provide variety for twins or siblings close in age. Hope you enjoy our choices!
