At Station "A" the children took part in a Fishing Game where the children caught a fish and acted out the question.photo of BfB Birthday Party participants

At Station "B" they participated in either put the letter on the book game, put the worm on the apple game or put the bee on the hive game.

Then the children made Books for Babies crowns and listened to some books which were read by retired Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Rose Vatcher.photo of BfB Birthday Party participants

At Station "C" the children watched plays which were performed by Lacey Ingram and Cheryl Myles and constructed their own personalized paper which was bound into Burgeo Library's own Books for Babies book!photo of BfB Birthday Party participant

After the games concluded, a lunch was served to parents and children. The party went over quite smoothly and was enjoyed by all.

Southwest Books for Babies® in the Port aux Basques region took part in a Family Literacy Day celebration on January 27th hosted by the Family Resource Centre.

Approximately ten children and their care-givers and families took part in the celebration at the Public Library in Port aux Basques. Stories were read by Books for Babies® members and a Resource Centre staff person. Mr. Don Crewe played the guitar and lead the singing before a craft was made. The Books for Babies® chapter provided a cake and snack that everyone enjoyed!

Each child received Family Literacy Day materials, a name tag and certificate as well as a book from the local Books for Babies®. A terrific time was had by all and one 23-month old participant, who was colouring intently, was featured on the front page of the local
paper the following week. (Text: JoAnn O’Brien)

Cormack Books for Babies® - Despite our best efforts, the annual Cormack B for B party didn't work out exactly as planned this year. Two children could attend but three were confined with the flu. Then, I hoped to have pictures for you, but the perfectly new disk turned out to be defective and the pictures could not be opened.

However, we did enjoy making a bunny basket craft, and the babies were eyes-wide during the bunny finger-plays and stories. Moms were treated to Easter cake and refreshments.

Hopefully, we got the Books for Babies message across to the few we had and we'll be delivering the packages to the others very soon.

The Torngâsok Cultural Centre was one of twelve organizations made “homeless” when fire totally destroyed their building in Nain on March 8 this year. The Centre collaborates with the Labrador Inuit Health Commission (LIHC) in Hopedale to provide the Inuaggualuit Language Nest. Marjorie Flowers, the Team Leader, and her staff in Hopedale, use Books for Babies® materials by translating them into Inuktitut during story-times. We wish them all the best as they rebuild and re-organize.
