Books for Babies® Newsletter
NEW COORDINATOR This Fall, Carla Osmond joined the Books for Babies® team as the new Provincial Coordinator. Linda Tarbett is still playing a key role in the program as she has joined the Advisory Board. The Advisory Board also welcomes Nancy Luscombe and Natalie Boyde as new members. THANK YOU! A warm thank you is extended to Paula Power and Lynnette Taylor for their contribution as volunteer Advisory Board members with Books for Babies®. Thank you for caring about the children and families in Newfoundland and Labrador!
Just a month after Christmas, we will be celebrating Family Literacy Day! On January 27th, Books for Babies® will have free books on display at the Valley Mall in Corner Brook. These books are sponsored by Fairway Honda. Children can also enter to win prizes. Help us spread the word - Reading is FUN! Tell us what you are doing in your area! NEW HANDBOOK On October 23rd, the new handbook was complete. The new edition is designed for toddlers as well as newborn children. It contains more lively and colorful cartoons than the original handbook. Children are exposed to illustrations of parents and children reading together. They can use many of the shapes and pictures to associate words and to help them count. The new handbook features activities that encourage parents and children to take an interactive approach to learning. Nursery rhymes, matching games, and songs offer fun ways to develop language and enhance memory skills. Finger plays, motion rhymes and craft ideas help children develop their coordination and sensory motor skills. These activities are FREE, or can be accomplished using items found around the home.
In addition to the quarterly newsletter, we have started an online book of Chapter activities and achievements. If you would like to share your stories and ideas with us, E-mail the Provincial Coordinator. MAKE A CHILD SMILE :) Joke One
