Our Book of Success

Chapter One Brown book Chapter Two

Chapter One - SouthWest Books

Congratulations to South West Books for Babies who raised over $1900 during their Walk for Literacy. In 2001-2002, the group distributed children's books to over 300 families! Their success is the result of cooperation among public health nurses, Health & Community Services Western, the public library, and their volunteers. Great Job!

Chapter Two - Bay St. George

On November 7, the Bay St. George Literacy Council, Inc. proudly held its first official meeting at their newly established Laubach Learning Centre (LLC). The LLC was appropriately named by Cavell Russell, the Books for Babies® Co-ordinator.

Tutors and student representatives were introduced to the many resources available to them and the public. The event coincided with Vice President's (Muriel Chislett) birthday, so balloons and cake were definitely part of the celebrations.

Volunteers keep the Centre open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (mid-morning to mid-afternoon). In addition, the Student/Tutor Co-ordinator, Lin Collier has accommodated all requests outside regular hours.

In keeping with their motto, "Each One Teach One", the telephone number to the LLC is 643-4121; "For one-to-one tutoring, call 4-1-2-1" (slogan compliments of Lin Collier)! The LLC is located at The Harmon Building, 58 Oregon Drive in Stephenville.

"Having a ‘place to hang our hat' has rejuvenated our Council. We highly recommend that other Councils pursue such a venture."
