After spending the last two and a half years as provincial coordinator with Books for Babies®, Charmaine Lynch is moving on. Ms. Lynch has accepted the position of coordinator with the Deer Lake Community Learning Centre.

Ms. Lynch sincerely regrets leaving such a wonderful program and such dedicated volunteers, but feels that the time has come for a change in her career.

The position of coordinator has been advertised. Ms. Lynch sincerely hopes that you will give the new coordinator all the support you have shown her in the past.

Update

Teleconference
As things will be on hold until a new provincial coordinator is in place, the teleconference scheduled for October 10 will be postponed until a later date.

New Calendar
Work on the new calendar will be underway this month! Ms. Elita Rahn, BFA, has taken on the position as calendar designer. Ms. Rahn has extensive experience in design and illustration and is a strong proponent of early literacy. Books for Babies® is fortunate to have someone with her experience as a member of the team.

Buckmaster’s Circle Community Centre
Fay Paddock, coordinator of the Books for Babies® program with Buckmaster’s Circle Community Centre has moved out of province and Bonnie James has taken over her work. Following is an excerpt from a letter Ms. James sent to the provincial office.

Hi Charmaine,
Just to let you know what has been happening here at Buckmaster’s:
Fay decided to leave in April to move out of the province and then I took over the position as Program Coordinator. Before that, I had been the Facilitator of the Adult Learner’s Program here at Buckmaster’s.

Our Books for Babies® program has been running quite successfully. We have a great deal of interest in the program and throughout the summer we have updated all the participants such that they have been contacted by me and thus received their books. The Resource Moms with the Healthy Baby Club have been instrumental in getting new moms to join. That has been great!!!

Perhaps in the fall I will make a presentation to the participants in the Healthy Baby Club such that they can become familiar with Books for Babies®. Our goals for the future are, of course, to have more people involved in Books for Babies® and to promote this program as well as other literacy programs throughout the community.

I would like to thank you for this opportunity as well as thank you in advance for sending us issues of “The Book Stork.”. Perhaps, if you don’t mind, you could put some of this information in “The Book Stork”. Just to let people know that my name is Bonnie James and that I am Program Coordinator and if there is anyone who would like additional information about our Community Centre and the programs we offer, they can feel free to contact me at 579-0718.
