A Public Awareness Initiative Tote Bags The launch of the new tote bags will take place in Corner Brook on Tuesday, October 2, 2001. A reception will follow at the College of the North Atlantic. Invited guests will include parents and children, school board members and volunteers. Local media will be present to provide coverage of this event. If you plan on being in the area, please call the provincial office to indicate your intention to attend the reception. Fundraising Fall is harvest time! What better fundraiser for this time of year than a harvest basket? Homemade jams, pickles, bottled fruits and vegetables - even crafts and knitted goods - are all enticing items. Package these items in a basket and sell tickets. This is sure to be a huge success! Provincial Literacy Campaign September 8th marked International Literacy Day. Minister Judy Foote took advantage of the "Health and Literacy Conference" at the Fairmont Hotel, St. John's to launch the "Read and Succeed" campaign. Children, parents, teachers, literacy workers, and members of the community were present and joined in the celebration. A literacy banner was unveiled and everyone joined in singing the "Read and Succeed" song. Look for the book mark with the words to this song and encourage groups in your area to learn and sing the song as often as possible, especially during gatherings in support of literacy.
