Winter is snow/funtime and Valentine's Day is close by! Here are some ideas for fundraising. What about:

  • a sweetheart basket
  • a winter basket
  • singing telegrams
  • poker run (snowmobiles)
  • dart tournaments
  • calendar sales
  • St. Patrick’s Day contest/concert

Do you have any ideas? Let us know!

Provincial Laubach AGM in Marystown
The new provincial coordinator, Linda Tarbett, attended the provincial conference in Marystown, in October, 2001. The sessions proved quite informative! Lillian Moores outlined CARA, Canadian Adults in Reading Assessment, a diagnostic tool used to aid in placement of adult learners. The Volunteer Recruitment session presented by Paula Power proved to be a valuable sharing opportunity. The “Round Table” session provided the opportunity for Linda to be introduced to those attending the conference. The two guest speakers, Richard Miller and Dorothy Silver, were both inspiring speakers and impressive role models.

New Partners
A warm welcome is extended to Cormack, under the leadership of Marie Morris, and Brighter Futures - St. John’s, under the leadership of Patsy Peyton. It is great to have you participate in the program with us. We look forward to hearing from you!

Family Literacy Day
Literacy is important at any stage in life. Developing early childhood reading helps develop life-long learning. Because of its importance, literacy is recognized in the National Literacy Day on January 27 each year.

Books for Babies® will display information at the Valley Mall , Corner Brook to highlight literacy. Fairway Honda has agreed to help sponsor the event by donating books and coloring books to be given to children. Children’s names will be entered into a draw for several prizes. What are you planning in your area?

Special Books
If you can buy only one children’s book this month, choose one from this wonderful list:

  • Charlotte’s Web, E.B.White
  • Corduroy, Don Freeman
  • Little Fish, Big Fish, Frank Asch
  • While You Were Sleeping, John Butler
  • Madeline, Ludwig Bemelmans
