Editor's Message:
We hope you enjoy this sampler of theCASPer.
The CASPer is a
newsletter, created in 1995, to give students from the CASP (Community Academic
Services Programs) in Albert, Westmorland, and Kent Counties the opportunity to
share their stories, poems, thoughts, and ideas.
Since that time there have
been several CASPers, each issue bigger than the one before it, as students
inspired each other with their stories of struggle and victory, in life, as
well as in their return to school. To these they added their recipes and
puzzles, their poetry and personalities, their art and their
enthusiasm.
The complete issue of this
CASPer will be available May 10 at Moncton Campus, NBCC, at Literacy Co-
ordinator Jerry Hicks' office. (856-2241)
The CASP began in 1991 to
meet the literacy needs of adults in New Brunswick.
At the time it was not
believed that the program would be in such demand and such a success. CASP
offered (and still offers) basic upgrading to adults who have anywhere from
grade 3 to almost grade 12.
The goal of most students
is to write their GED (High School equivalency exams). Many have succeeded.
Many have joined the work force for the first time in their lives; many have
gotten better- paying jobs, and many have gotten off the roles of government
assistance. There is probably a CASP near you. Whether you know someone who
would like to attend, or if you would like to contribute financially to our
CASPs in the province, give us a call at 856-2241.
