Ministers Forum on
Learning Nov. 19,20/99 Lifelong Learning
Important
About 200 Albertans from around the province provided valuable input on ways
to foster lifelong learning and a seamless learning system in Alberta during
the Ministers forum on Learning in Edmonton. The conference heard from
high school, college and university students and educators; continuing
education providers; parents; as well as industry, labour and community
representatives.
Some of the highlights from the conference included the following:
 |
Improving partnerships among government, stakeholders and all
Albertans; |
 |
The importance of meeting the changing and unique needs of the
learner; |
 |
The necessity for a seamless and flexible system; |
 |
The importance of accessibility and removing barriers for the
learner; and |
 |
The need to create an appreciation and passion for learning in
the province. |
There was excellent discussion during this two-day conference,
said Dr. Oberg. The sharing of visions of lifelong learning from this
Forum and from other future discussions with Albertans will be used as a
foundation in putting together Alberta Learnings Business Plan for the
21st Century. The report should be available at the end of January. The
CLN office will have a copy.
