Comparing
Computers
| Literacy
Objective: Students will be able to read and understand computer
vocabulary found in a computer advertisement. |
| Computer
Objective: Students will be able to identify the parts of a computer and
their functions. |
|
Introduction/Preparation: This lesson works best as a follow-up to an
introductory lesson on the parts of a computer. In this lesson students learn
to apply this knowledge to a practical task, comparing computers featured in
computer ads. Ahead of time, the teacher will need to collect and photocopy
several computer ads. Include a couple classified ads for used computers for
comparison purposes. Also prepare a chart such as the one below to help
students record the information that will be used to compare the computers.

Procedure:
1. Advanced students can be given the job of listing the
main parts of a computer down the left side.
2. Have students discuss and record information about each
computer. For example, Does it have a hard drive? How big is it? Does it have
RAM? How much? Does it have a processor? Of course!
3. Finally, students should discuss which is the best
computer and/or which one is the best deal.
