In this issue, we celebrate our partnership with Alberta's Promise, a movement by caring community partners to create opportunities for our children and youth to be successful, happy and healthy. Alberta's Promise facilitates partnerships between communities, businesses, service clubs, foundations and agencies so that they may work together to direct more resources to benefit our children and youth.

As indicated on the Alberta's Promise website, "Alberta's Promise celebrates successes and recognizes Partnerships to motivate all Albertans to raise awareness of the importance of investing in Alberta's children and youth." Through this initiative we are brushing shoulders with those businesses and communities who believe, like we do, that our best investment is in the education and support of those who will lead us in the future.

Our involvement in this partnership fits nicely into FESA's priority for 2005-6, i.e. Securing Our Future. Both the Board and Staff are committed to developing a solid foundation on which to construct the support for trainers, facilitators, and agencies that wish to create awareness of LAPS and to implement the program in their communities. We have already secured over $100,000 to date to assist a variety of LAPS initiatives in Western Canada. We are going to be just as aggressive in searching for funds to work in the East.

Our belief that the secret weapon required to ensure that children reach their potential is well informed, confident parents who are modeling a love of literacy, drives this priority. This foundational work is the key to a Canada in which a person can achieve his/her personal best.

FESA's new mission statement reads:

"All FESA personnel will work together and with community partners locally and nationally to provide services for multi-barriered, isolated learners which are respectful of their learning styles and cultural needs, literacy and parenting needs, and which encourage their children's language and literacy development so that all may graphic image of Alberta's Promise logoachieve their emotional, spiritual, physical, and mental capacity."

Together we can achieve our goals – we promise!
