    Laubach Literacy Ontario celebrated 30 years at its annual conference June 24th to 26th at Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo, Ontario. Thirty years of supporting and promoting adult literacy in Ontario is quite a feat in this day and age.

    On Monday, February 28, 2011 Laubach Literacy Ontario held its second annual Literacy Awareness Day at Queen's Park in Toronto. It was amazing to see it all come together after months of planning. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left Queen's Park we were busy.

    Laubach Literacy Ontario would like to thank CUPE (Canadian Union of Public Employees) Ontario for their continuing support of our Literacy Awareness Day. Donations have also been pouring in from numerous locals across Ontario. This will help offset costs for the lunch reception at Queen's Park.

    The 2010 Conference, held at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, was a resounding success considering it was unfunded. Over 137 people attended, including 32 literacy students. Eighteen workshops were offered on a variety of topics relevant to literacy, employment and essential skills.

    It was a muggy summer night about 11pm in downtown Cambridge when Jenna came out of her apartment building to take her dog, Zeus for his evening walk. She looked down the street and saw a guy coming towards her. Suddenly Zeus began yanking on the leash to get to the guy.

    Rubert has read his first book to the end (and many more since). In May 2004, he began at Level 1 and he is now at Level 3. Today, he writes more clearly and reads with more understanding. He also gives presentations to groups.
