Student's Corner

In May I was your learner representative for a year. There is a lot to learn. At this time I would like to ask other learners to get on your local Laubach board. My term will end before we know it.

If you would like to be the next national student rep. it is time to find out what is going on so when the time comes you will be ready. I have asked the national board if I can have one learner from each province and territory to find out the challenges in your area and send you information. If you would like to write to me about anything in literacy, please do.

"Story of the Week"

Students! Tutors! The National Adult Literacy Database (NALD) needs your assistance. They will be featuring a new story, written by an adult learner, each week on the NALD World Wide Web page (http://www.nald.ca).

NALD would like to regularly receive current stories from students and permission to electronically publish them. From this pool of stories one will be selected each week. It would be appreciated if the author could supply his or her photograph and a brief biography.

Congratulations to the 1996 Student Graduates!

Seven graduates were presented with certificates on May 4th at a ceremony during the Western Development Conference in Vancouver, BC and two graduates were presented with certificates May 17th at the Atlantic Regional Conference in Charlottetown, PEI. Certificates were mailed to students who were unable to attend.
