Trainer's Corner As this is my last edition of Trainer's Corner, I
had planned to say what a wonderful experience it has been to chair the Training
and Certification Committee these past four years. But, I have always
maintained that Training and Certification is a working comittee, and they have
put me to work! I have been assigned the task of writing about Trainers'
alliance, or simply put, who "owns" the trainers: national, provincial
or local.
For several reasons, this topic came up around the table at our January meeting. The committee feels strongly that trainers, are national trainers. We trainers receive training that meets national standards, and quite often, the funding to take advantage of that comes from the national level of the organization. 0ur applications for all levels of trainer certification are evaluated by a national committe. This certification allows us to train for the organization in any province in the country. When we go out into the field, armed with our Literacy Trainer Handbook and chart bags, we are representing Laubach Literacy of Canada. (And if, heaven forbid, we should need to be de-certified as trainers, that decision would also be made at the national level.) Because we work for the local and provincial councils in training new tutors, this issue can become cloudy. |

The Training and Certification Committee has some plans and goals for the future which are national in scope. But, you'll have to hear about them from LLC's incoming T&C Chair, Ellen Knickle. My term ends in May and as I started to say in my opening paragraph, the experience has been wonderful. I will never be able to give back to the organzation even a small percentage of what it has given me. Thanks, everyone. |
