NEWS FROM THE PROVINCES...Laubach Literacy Newfoundland and Labrador (LLNF/LB) is pleased to announce the formation of a new Laubach council, the White Hills Literacy Council, serving the Middle Arm and Burlington areas. It was the proud recipient of the Government of Canada Literacy Innovation Award, of the Flight for Freedom Awards. An English Second Language workshop was held at the end of November in Corner Brook. Sharon Moukperian, from Ontario, provided the training for eleven participants. Four NF/LB Apprenticing Trainers went to Moncton, NB to attend the Trainer's Workshop held there in mid-February. Attending this workshop is part of the certification requirements to become a certified LLC trainer. LLNF/LB will be holding its Annual Meeting on April 18 and 19, 1997 in Grand Falls. Things are hopping in BC with five new councils in the past year as well as a Peer Youth Tutor training session in Lillooet. The new councils are found in the Lower Mainland (Laubach Literacy Mission), three in the Southern Interior (Lillooet Adult Literacy Tutoring, Barriere Laubach Literacy Council and Ashcroft/Cache Creek Laubach Literacy Council) and one is in the North (Skeena Learning Connection in Terrace). The first issue of a provincial newsletter is in the works to keep all BC members informed and make them feel part of a larger organization.
