Public Speaking Workshop for Students

The Public Speaking Workshop, winner of the 1999 Dr. Bob Laubach Student Fund Award, was held in Sussex, New Brunswick on November 20, 1999. This full-day workshop for students involved in Laubach Literacy New Brunswick was facilitated by Heather Harris, Public Relations Officer for LLNB and a member of Toastmasters International. Students attended the workshop from Moncton, Saint John, Fredericton and Sussex.

Participants learned the basics of public speaking including the different parts of a speech, vocal variety, gestures, powerful speech openings, off-the-cuff speaking techniques and tips for controlling nervousness. The workshop was one of the best I have ever attended with lots of confidence-builders and opportunities to practice our newly learned skills.

Part II of this very worthwhile project will be sponsored by LLNB in 2000.

Thank you for this wonderful opportunity which was very beneficial to all students who attended!
