During volunteer week in April, all past and present members were invited to a volunteer appreciation night hosted by the council executive. Activities included a "Wheel of Knowledge" game created by one of our members. The "Wheel of Knowledge" also made an appearance during the Year 2000 High School Reunion in July, where residents and non-residents were given an opportunity to spin the wheel, play for prizes, and learn more about the activities of the Minto Literacy Council. Plans are being made for other activities for the fall season. For more information on future activities or how you can become involved in literacy efforts in the Minto and Grand Lake area, call Jane Wasson at 506-327-3926 (evenings).
The call for submissions to the Dr. Bob Laubach Student Fund, in the March 2000 issue of Literacy Connections, was answered by a number of students from across the country. This year's winners were announced at LLC's regional conference in Gander, NF in May. They are: LLNB's Student Advisory Committee for their Stress Buster Workshop - awarded $850. RECLAIM for their Speakers to a Student Support Group proposal - awarded $1,500.
Have you got student project ideas? Check the criteria for submissions (March 1999 issue, or call the Development Office) and watch for a reminder in the March 2001 issue of Literacy Connections. Just a reminder to this year's winners, please submit your brief report to Literacy Connections at the conclusion of your project. |
