![]() LLC's Training and Certification
Committee Family Literacy has become a major issue all across Canada, and we have a small group of dedicated trainers working on Laubach's Creating a Learning Culture in the Home training manuals. They are attempting to take the three manuals developed by Cate Durant, and combine them to make one user friendly, module-based manual. This will enable trainers to pick and choose the material best suited for their audience. The ESL Video-Based workshop is also being revamped in order to make it a shorter and easier workshop to deliver for tutors already trained in the Laubach Way to Reading series. Standards and certification requirements for ESL trainers are also being redone. The Peer Youth Tutor Training Manual is still being developed and is coming along nicely. This manual is one of the most time consuming as there is no prototype to work from. Everything for this manual is being developed from scratch. There are many new modules currently under development for the Literacy Trainer Handbook. Some of these modules will include: Challenger, Math, Readability, Learning Styles, Ongoing Assessment and Goal Setting. The following trainers received certification at our June meeting.
I would like to take just one more minute of your time to offer my thanks to Ellen Knickle, outgoing Chair of Training and Certification, for the wonderful job she has done during the past couple of years.
