Staff Carolyn McWhinnie, Executive Director Canada Post Literacy Award We have exciting news to share about one of our learners, Constance Hansey, who will receive the 2004 Canada Post Individual Achievement Award for British Columbia. Constance has been involved as a learner with Literacy Central VI and now at for the past four years. She will be travelling to Salmon Arm with her tutor, Jane Muise, where she will receive her award. Canada Post will also present her with a computer. Constance has been volunteering for many years at Georgia Avenue Community School, giving basic computer instruction. It is fitting that she should receive a new computer of her own. Congratulations! United WayWe are approaching United Way Campaign time. As a member agency of United Way, we would like to encourage you to support United Way activities in the next three months. We have been a member agency for many years and are grateful for the support that United Way gives us. Laugh for Literacy
Guest author Arthur Black with emcee Kent Wilson (WOLF radio), Carolyn McWhinnie (Executive Director of Literacy Central VI), and volunteer Lynne Fraser (Coastal Community Credit Union). Our 2nd annual Laugh for Literacy event was another success, generating $5,800.00 for Literacy Central VI's programs. We couldn't have done it without the volunteer committee: Barry & Val Fulford, Carol Moffatt, Jane Muise, Anne Judson and Lynne Fraser; the many volunteers who helped out at the event; and our sponsors: Costco, Investor's Group, and Kwik Kopy.
We also appreciate the support of our many Silent Auction item donors: Studio Kitchens, Nanaimo Florist, Lordco, Bridgeway Transport, Drew Craig (The Drifter), Jim Philip (Zaca), Rocky Point Massage, Cherry Point Vineyards, TheatreOne, Wheaton Pontiac, Steve Marshall Ford, Coastal Community Credit Union, Donna Lee Kuntz (Shaklee), Fish & Duck Houseboats, Flying Tankers Inc., Fountain Tire, Harbour Lynx, Lynne Fraser, Mary Kay, Napa Auto Parts, Shanghai Emporium, Tigh-Na-Mara Spa, Valhalla Pure, Carolyn Iles, and Norma Franks. Our thanks also go to Thora Howell for bringing in Arthur's book and the Woodlands Senior Combo for providing the music. |
