Saturday, April 24
Pioneer Plaza (waterfront)
Free fun and games for the whole family to enjoy! Any funds raised will be donated to Literacy Central VI.

Books are Fun!

Help support Literacy Central VI by having a book party. These are brand new, beautiful books of all sorts that are priced from 30 to 60% off of their regular retail price. All you have to do is have a few friends in for an evening. The Books are Fun representative brings the books to your home, shows the books, takes the orders, and then delivers the books to you within a week. You, as a host, receive a gift and Literacy Central VI receives a percentage of the sales. Nothing to it! We will be contacting you in the near future to confirm when you would like to have your party.

Hewlett Packard Rebate

If you or your company are thinking of buying a HP OfficeJet 725 or HP OfficeJet 1170C printer, you will get a $75.00 U.S. or $100.00 U.S. rebate if you donate your old printer, fax, scanner or copier to charity (like Literacy Central VI). This is being offered through London Drugs and probably other retailers.

Avid Gardeners!flowerpot

As you know, Literacy Central VI is now located in a historic house. Well, this historic house has flowers and plants as well as a lawn and hedge. The landlord looks after the lawn and hedge but we really need someone to volunteer to occasionally prune, weed, and otherwise look after the perennial garden. It’s looking pretty shabby right now so if your green thumbs
are itching give us a call.

Collaborative Nursing Program

pill bottle

Since mid January Literacy Central VI has been fortunate to have a practicum student, Dabinder Lalri, from the Malaspina University- College Collaborative Nursing Program.

Dabinder read through all of our health related literacy material and developed a project to determine how pharmacists ensure that their customers understand the prescription and non prescription medication that they purchase.

She designed a questionnaire and has begun interviewing pharmacists. Part of the interview process is informing pharmacists of the literacy levels in our community and explaining the difference between functional literacy and E.S.L., for example.
