Literacy Nanaimo had a busy year last year holding two special events. These events would not have been a success without the help of many volunteers and in particular the committees' chair, Gerry Prouten. Now that we have these events under our belt, we will be holding them again this year.

Laugh for Literacy

We provided wine and hors d'oeuvres, had a number of silent auction items and were entertained by a jazz quartet from Woodlands High School. Laura Acton, host of The Good Life on The New VI acted as our MC. It was a beautiful summer evening, the location worked extremely well, and a good time was had by all. Will has a very engaging personality and was very entertaining.
We netted about $4,000.00 and are looking forward to our next event.

Scrabble

Literacy Central VI will be holding its second Scrabble tournament March 6th.

Last year's Scrabble event was very popular and really well organized. We had 43 participants and netted over $3,000.00.

To participate in this year's event you need to raise a minimum of $50.00 in pledges and bring yourself to Beban Park before 9:00 am, Saturday, March 6th. If you have a Scrabble game, please bring that along. We have merchandise prizes and gift certificates. You will play three games. For the first game you will be randomly matched, but the second and third game matches will be based on the score you earned in the first game. We will provide a continental breakfast and lunch. Come out and have some fun for a good cause!
