Focus on Solutions

So often our attention is directed toward the improvement of academic performance; however, the characteristics that really make a difference in the lives of individuals with learning disabilities appear to fall within the domain of social and emotional wellness.

Magnifying glassPresident’s Report

Focus on Solutions: Fostering Psychological Wellness.

It seems hard to imagine that the first year of my term as president has already passed! The year has been filled with both successes and ongoing challenges – not the least of which is my own harried work schedule. I need to acknowledge the tremendous efforts of our volunteer Board that have allowed me to learn the ropes of both my position with LDANB and my faculty position at UNB this year. Specifically, I would like to acknowledge the outstanding work of our Administrative Assistant, Nila Christensen, whose organizational skills and positive attitude make our office function as a well-oiled machine. And Fabie.....it’s hard to know where to begin. When Fabienne MacKay first approached me to join the Board as member-at-large two years ago, I expressed my fear that my work schedule would be an impediment to my contribution to the Board. She assured me that she would be there to support and guide, but I could scarcely imagine how deeply that commitment would run. With my move into the role of president, Fabie has been both the glue that has held the association together, and the embodiment of passion for the wellbeing of individuals with learning disabilities in this province. I would simply not have survived this year without her.
