Volunteer MonthApril is Volunteer Month and Literacy Plus is, as always, very grateful for all the volunteer help that keeps us going. Our volunteer board gives many hours every year to overseeing the policies and finances of the organization, participating on committees, and planning and managing the fundraising activities that keep us afloat. The Bonnechere Authors Festival, the Annual Swing for Literacy golf tournament, and the Bonnechere Valley Christmas concert are three big events that require commitment and many helping hands. Our dedicated volunteer tutors work one-toone with students around the county who can't access classes or who need individual learning support. As well as teaching, tutors spend time planning lessons, finding materials to meet their students' needs, and even taking their students on learning outings. They also volunteer to take training to improve their own skills for tutoring. In the office, we benefit from the help of volunteers who work on the seemingly endless job of organizing our library of resource materials, who perform a variety of tasks from filing to photocopying and who help with the day-to-day clean up that keeps the office and classrooms presentable. We couldn't do what we do without the help of all these wonderful people—thank you all! ![]() Volunteering is a work of heart Annual General MeetingJune 10 is the date of Literacy Plus's Annual General Meeting, to be held at St. James Church, 78 Wellington Street, Eganville. The Board and staff invite tutors, students and members of the public to attend. The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. with meeting and greeting and the chance to see displays of student work. A potluck supper will follow—not to be missed! ![]() Following the speaker (TBA), we will report to
our members on Literacy Plus's activities and
