Adult Bursary Program

It's that time of year when we invite applications for our Adult Bursary Program. The bursaries are grants of $500. Up to ten are awarded to adults who are working toward either a grade 12 equivalency or entrance into skill training. Money for the busaries is raised each year during the PGI Golf Tournament for Literacy.

Who can qualify?

People who qualify are adults who:

  • left the school system before completing grade 12
  • have been out of the school system for at least three years
  • have been accepted into an upgrading program in PEI, and
  • need financial assistance

If you would like an application form, call Catherine or Norman at (902) 368-3620. Please note: the applications must be received at our office by October 31, 2000.

Database of Literacy Programs and Services in PEI

For the past three years the Alliance has collected information on literacy programs and services in PEI in a database.

This year the aggregate information collected was made available to researchers and other interested individuals at our website. Also on the website is a searchable referral site which allows people to identify adult education programs by location, sponsoring organization and type of program.

This fall the Alliance will host a meeting of employment counsellors, social workers and interested individuals to demonstrate how the information can be retrieved from the website. At this meeting we hope to have hard copies of each organization's data for their review.

For more information about the database please call us at 902-368-3620.

Check out our website for yourself. It is located at: www.nald.ca/peila.htm
